![]() So for instance I can create another tab here and create another tab here. You can still use all the different features here. Very handy when you're doing research or online shopping or anything like that. Now I have a split view with Safari on the left and Safari on the right but showing me two separate things. You can do the same thing here even though this is just one app with two separate windows I can click and hold the green button, select which half I want for this Safari window and then choose the other Safari window in the other half. Now let's say I want to go back and forth between these two very easily by splitting the view. So let's say let's go to Discussions at. So in Safari I'm saying File, New Window, creating a new window. Instead I'm going to create a new Safari window. I'm going to Quit Mail, just to get it out of the way. Now I've got both of these out of that mode. Go back over here where I can see that Safari has taken over the entire screen on my second desktop. So I'm going to go ahead and click the green arrow here to get Mail out of the split view. Say I wanted this to be Safari on left and another Safari window on the right. So, for instance, it's very common to want to actually look at two web pages at once. There's my original desktop where these both were on and here's the second desktop which is a split view between Mail on the left and Wikipedia, or the Safari browser, on the right. I can use Control left and right arrows to go back and forth. In this case it was only Safari here so I'll click on that and now I've got split view here in Mission Control. Then it shows me all the other windows that are open and I get to select which one takes over the right half. So I'll say this will take over the left half. But if I press and hold instead then I get to choose what half of the screen I want this to take over. create an entire desktop in Mission Control, I would just press the green button here. If I want this to take over the entire screen. Well, it just doesn't work.Video Transcript: So split view has been around for more than a year now and hopefully maybe you've tried it out and maybe even used it to have an app take up one half of the screen while another app takes up another half of the screen.įor instance, here I've got Mail and Safari. It was the one time where I thought I had enough money to buy into the "just works" cult. I bought this display directly from the Apple Store, as at the time, it was the one and only display they offered. In any case, it's clear that the issue is the display or the software or both. So now I have a Logitech strapped to the display, covering up the old camera. Which is a huge shame because the quality of the webcam was quite good. Plus another one: the webcam video is bizarrely laggy. I am now on an M1 Air and I still have all the same problems with the display I had with my previous Intel MacBook Pro. One of the buttons "helpfully" opens the Displays control panel for you. The app appears to do absolutely nothing. USB devices plugged into it mysteriously stop working. Putting the Mac too close to the display would prevent wifi from working. My Mac would kernel panic when being plugged in or disconnected. ![]() 5k! But then I started noticing the problems. I foolishly shelled out several thousand dollars for a new LG Ultrafine 5k back in 2017 when I started my new job. Both are just locked to maximum and changing either is through the one button on the bottom. I don't use this button often, but it is annoying that I can't just use the brightness button on my keyboard to bring the brightness of the monitor down considering the monitor is just suposed to be displaying the mac exactly how it would look if I was just looking at the mac!!! same thing with volume. But you can't, you have to use the poorly designed one button on the bottom of the monitor. ![]() I was excited at first because I figured this app would make it possible for me to change volume and displays settings through the mac. Any other button in the app that you should be able to click on, doesn't work. All it does is open the displays page in settings. However, when I was messing around trying to find the ways to maximize the use of the screen I stumble upon probably the dumbest app ever to exist. Only one cord into my mac, which is just dandy. The USB-C connection charges my computer as well so I can have the lid closed and use a USB-ethernet on the back of the monitor for better internet. I stumbled upon that monitor and it has quite a few functions which is awesome! I have my Mac, a Wii, and a PS3 all connect at once and just need to switch inputs to change. I have an LG UHD Ultra Fine 4K monitor that I really wanted to use for my MacBook air to have a bigger screen.
